Icona Pop
Icona Pop består av Aino Jawo och Caroline Hjelt, födda år 1986 respektive 1987. Båda är uppvuxna i Stockholm, men de träffade varandra först i vuxen ålder. Faktum är att de bildade Icona Pop samma kväll som de träffades, på en fest i februari år 2009. Bara en månad senare hade duon skrivit tillräckligt många låtar för att kunna hålla en spelning, och samma år fick de kontrakt med TEN Music Group. De gav ut sin debutsingel medan de var baserade i London, och ”Manners”, som låten hette, fick uppmärksamhet i den internationella pressen. Det är dock låten ”I Love It” som är deras största hit. Singeln gick från att ha sålt guld i USA (vilket innebär en halv miljon sålda exemplar) till att i maj 2013 ha sålt platina. I och med detta blev Icona Pop en av de endast tre svenska artister som har sålt platina i USA (tillsammans med Avicii och Swedish House Mafia). Singeln sålde även platina i Tyskland. Ett annat imponerande åstadkommande är att singeln placerade sig på topplistan i England, något som bara tio svenska artister har lyckats med (inklusive Icona Pop). Icona Pop har också tilldelats en rad priser och utmärkelser, bland annat tidskriften Gaffas pris för ”Årets Svenska Genombrott”, P3 Guld för ”Årets låt 2012” (för ”I Love It”), och en Grammis för ”Årets Nykomling 2012”.
Jawo och Hjelt beskriver själva sin musik som ”hårda galopperande trummor, syntar och klassiska popmelodier”, och de har sagt att man både ska kunna skratta och gråta till deras musik samtidigt. Genremässigt har musiken kategoriserats av andra som pop med inslag av house och indiepop. Duons debutalbum kom år 2012, och fick helt enkelt namnet Icona Pop. Samma år uppträdde Icona Pop på festivalen Summerburst i både Göteborg och Stockholm, liksom på ett flertal andra festivaler. År 2013 lämnade de Sverige, och gav sig ut på turné i USA och i Asien. Idag är Icona Pop baserade i New York och Los Angeles, där de sedan 2012 och ”I Love It” har släppt flera singlar: ”We Got the World” från 2012, ”Girlfriend” från 2013, ”All Night” från 2013, ”Get Lost” från 2014 och ”Emergency” från 2015.
